Grange Events        

December 2004

This year we had another great Christmas gathering. Our wonderful Treasurer, Frank Baker, tickled the ivories for us while we sang carols led by the Assistant Steward, Wilma Baker. The Lecturer, Tina Hall, read Twas the Night Before Christmas to the children in attendance. We had a white elephant gift exchange, and Santa gave all the children a nice gift bag full of goodies. We also played a game where several folks started out with a gift and had to pass it either LEFT or RIGHT depending upon the story being read. It was fun.

August 2004

This month, we had a memorial for Gino Giovacchini who passed away in July. Gino came to us via one of the square dancing clubs that meet in our hall. He has been a great asset to us in many ways. He will be sorely missed. Gino had requested that Wilma Baker do her 'Jake the peg' routine which she performed for the talent contest one year. This was performed in his honor since he did not get the opportunity to watch it himself.

April 2004

This month we had Senator Finkbeiner and Don Whiting at our open meeting on the 19th. Attendance was not as many as we had expected, but it was a great program. Both men talked to us regarding Initiative 872 and our Primary system which was changed this year. Our Blanket primary was determined to be 'unconstitutional'.

JUNE 2001

This year's Grange convention was held on the Cowlitz County Fairgrounds, in Longview, WA. It was an interesting experience for this Grange's Lecturer! My first! I was a marching candidate for the 6th degree, and it was also the last year for the State Flora, Susan (Fricke) Hegney, whom I met through my affiliation with McIntosh Grange in Rockford, Spokane County, WA.  You can view our photo taken together HERE.

The lecturer's department and the CWA department were quite interesting and fun. I learned what is acceptable for the contests, so that next year I will be prepared! I am now eagerly awaiting next year's convention!

MARCH 2001

In February, I (Tina Hall) experienced my first earthquake. It was a 6.8, and 30 miles deep, down near Olympia, and damaged the dome at the Capital building there. Afterwards, I learned from the television stations that I had done everything wrong and if my house would have come down around me, I would have perished.

 

My first lecturer's program in March was a lesson on safety during and earthquake and how the con artists come out of the walls during disasters to take advantage of the elderly, so I also gave some tips on how to spot them, and what to do to get a professional to do the necessary repairs. I prepared pamphlets and passed them out to all in attendance.

 

I believe that this program was enough to earn our Grange the Lecturer's Bar.

DECEMBER 2000

We held a re-organization meeting for the Junior Grange prior to the annual Christmas meeting. Several children showed up to participate, and we invited them to join us at our Christmas party. Santa showed up in the middle of the activities. He listened to wishes, passed out candy canes and apples, and had his photo taken with the Lecturer (pro tem), Tina Hall.

 

All in all, the evenings events were a success. Krissy Kaufman, who was attending the re-organization meeting and stayed for the festivities, won the grand prize for the evening - a lovely jar full of Christmas bows! Marianne Scott was also here for the re-organization of the Junior Grange. Door prizes were won by two of the Juniors in attendance and a Granger, Eric Clark. I can't wait for next year's party!
