State Grange selects 2002 scholarship recipients
Olympia, May 7, 2002 -- The Washington State Grange Foundation Fund has announced the recipients of the Grange's scholarships for 2002. The Grange is proud of all who applied for scholarships, and knows that those who received awards will put them to excellent use in furthering their education.
A total of 38 scholarships are being give this year. Scholarships awarded by the foundation come from endowments dedicated to aid students with their college education expenses.
Clifford and Helen Kittleson Scholarship: Sarah Munro of Orondo, a member of Orondo Grange in Douglas County, received this $750 scholarship. Her parents are Henry and Lois Munro. She plans to study agricultural education.
Delpha Goude Agricultural Scholarships: Three Delpha Goude Scholarships for $750 were awarded this year. One award went to Jon Dowling of Colfax. He is a member of Steptoe Grange in Whitman County, and his parents, Pat and Heidi Dowling, are members of Kenova Grange. Dowling received a four-year recurring award to study agricultural education. Previous recipients are Audra Durfey (second of four years) and Michael Oliver (fourth of four years). A winner of a one-year Delpha Goude Scholarship is BrieAnne Inman of Colville, a member of Fort Colville Grange in Stevens County. She will study agricultural economics. Her parents are Larry and Babetta Inman. The final Delpha Goude Scholarship was taken by Lucas Mallon, a resident of Ardenvoir and son of Michael and Christine Mallon, members of Entiat Grange in Chelan County. Mallon is interested in wildlife biology.
Enga M. Anderson Scholarship: DeDe McMillan of Rice is studying natural resources with the assistance of this $750 scholarship. Her parents, Richard and Cynthia McMillan, are members of Quillisascut Grange in Stevens County.
Fox Island Grange Scholarships: Two $750 Fox Island Grange scholarships were awarded this year. Sunnyside resident Alisa Barr intends to study special education with the help of her Fox Island Scholarship. She is a member of Outlook Grange in Yakima County. Her parents are Richard and Christina Duggins. The second recipient, Lisa Bowen of Greenacres, is studying education and is a member of McIntosh Grange in Spokane County, along with parents Mike and Carol Evans.
Horace Bozarth Home Economics Scholarship: Angela Vold, a Sprague resident studying marketing (clothing, textiles and design), received this year's $750 award. Parents Ron and Joy Vold are members of Crab Creek Grange in Lincoln County.
Lone Oak Grange Scholarships: Four people received $750 scholarships this year. The first, Marci Schwartz of Pullman, studies elementary education. She and her parents, Stanley and Jill Schwartz, are members of Spring Creek Grange in Lincoln County. Katherine Sliger from Wilbur, the second recipient, also studies elementary education. Her parents are members of Wilbur Grange in Lincoln County. Michelle Stagner took the third Lone Oak Scholarship and plans to study nursing. She comes from Castle Rock and is a member of Sunnyside Grange in Cowlitz County. Her parents are Russell and Teresa Stagner. This year's fourth winner is Stacey Whipple of Sprague. She studies business, and is the daughter of Joseph and Janet Whipple from Crab Creek Grange in Lincoln County.
Marion and Snowie Vanderpool: This $750 award was bestowed on Brian Walker of Almira, a member of St. Andrews Grange in Douglas County. He is interested in civil engineering. Parents Leslie and Shirley Walker are members of Parvin Grange in Whitman County.
Martin and Gracie Forry Scholarships: This scholarship provides recipients with funding for four years of advanced education. The 2002 recipient is Kimberly Lynch of Woodland, who wishes to study business and floriculture. Her parents, Craig and Julie Lynch, are members of Fargher Lake Grange in Clark County. Previous recipients include Nathan Klein (second of four years), Nathaniel Krupke (third of four years) and Renae Blake (fourth of four years).
Norman Buchholz Scholarship: Kimberly Clayton, a Wapato resident who studies agricultural media and communication, took this $2,500 scholarship for 2002. She is the daughter of Mark and Lynda Clayton and a member of Ashue Grange in Yakima County.
Ray and Marion Kamerrer Scholarships: This fund provides one student with a four-year award worth $750 a year. This year Callie Hulce of Waitsburg won the four-year scholarship. This aspiring student is interested in studying psychology. She and parents Tony and Jean Hulce are members of Patit Valley Grange in Columbia County. The previous recipient is Reade Ferguson (second of four years).
The Kamerrer fund also provides one-year $750 scholarships to a number of students. This year twelve people received the awards. They are:
Jacquelyn Bruns of Riverside, a member of Mt. Olive Grange in Okanogan County, and a student of accounting. Her parents, Daniel and Cheryl Wilson, are members of Tunk Valley Grange.
Erin Bryant of Spanaway is working toward a degree in food and human nutrition. She and her parents, David and Mary Bryant, are members of Elk Plain Grange in Pierce County.
Danae Crain of Olympia, whose parents Stacy and Cherri Crain are members of Prosperity Grange in Thurston County, intends to study education.
Amy Hollenback of Washtucna is a member of Ralston Grange in Adams County, along with parents Alan and Janet Camp. She studies graphic design.
Jared Munstedt, a student from Spokane, is a member of Moran Prairie Grange in Spokane County with his parents Patrick and Jan Munstedt.
Jacqueline Pegan of Everson is studying nursing. She and her parents Lee and Lorraine Pegan are members of Hopewell Grange in Whatcom County.
James Stearns of Dayton is a member of Patit Valley Grange in Columbia County, as are his parents Donald and Neita Stearns. He is working to become an electronics technician.
Gretchen Wenzl of Sultan is the daughter of Charles and Rosemary Wenzl, and they are all members of Fern Bluff Grange in Snohomish County. She is studying secondary education.
Bradley Whipple of Sprague will study pre-medicine. His parents, Joseph and Janet Whipple, are members of Crab Creek Grange in Lincoln County.
Erin Mar-De Wise of Tekoa is pursuing a career in music education. She and parents Randall and Darlene Wise are members of Tekoa Grange in Whitman County.
Mandy Zavala of Dayton will study dental hygiene. She is a member of Waitsburg Grange in Columbia County with her parents, Miguel and Linda Zavala.
Riverview Grange Scholarships: Two $750 scholarships were awarded this year. The first went to Adele Durfey of Pullman, a member of Ewartsville Grange in Whitman County. Her parents, James and Judith Durfey, are also members of Ewartsville Grange. Charles Grove of Anacortes, an electrical engineering student, won the second scholarship. His parents, James and Susan Grove, are members of Summit Park Grange in Skagit County.
Women's Activities Committee Scholarships: Ronee Jo Deahl of Wilbur received the first of three of these $750 scholarships. She is a member of Wilbur Grange in Lincoln County, and studies speech and hearing sciences. Parents Lance and Barbara Tower are members of Bluestem Grange. The second recipient is Sarah Snyder of Ritzville, a student of nursing. Her brother, Jason Snyder, took the third scholarship. He also comes from Ritzville and wants to study heating and air conditioning repair and service. They are both children of Jerry and Gretchen Snyder, and the family members are all in Ralston Grange in Adams County.
