The Washington State Grange Foundation Fund has announced the recipients of the state Grange's scholarships for 2003. The Grange is proud of all who applied for scholarships, and knows that those who received awards will put them to excellent use in furthering their education.
A total of 39 scholarships were given this year. Scholarships awarded by the foundation come from endowments dedicated to aid students with their college education expenses.
Delpha Goude Agricultural Scholarships: Three Delpha Goude Scholarships for $750 were awarded this year. One award went to Joseph Dowling of Colfax. His parents, Pat and Heidi Dowling, are members of Kenova Grange in Whitman County. Dowling received a four-year recurring award to study agricultural technology. Previous recipients are Jon Dowling (second of four years) and Audra Durfey (third of four years). A winner of a one-year Delpha Goude Scholarship is Craig Kincaid of Pullman. He will study agricultural technology. His parents, Cris and Pam Kincaid, are members of Ewartsville Grange in Whitman County. The final Delpha Goude Scholarship was taken by Kelsey Tanneberg, a resident of Mansfield and son of Douglas and Michele Tanneberg. Douglas Tanneberg is a member of Mansfield Grange in Douglas County. Kelsey is interested in agricultural economics.
Fox Island Grange Scholarships: Four $750 Fox Island Grange scholarships were awarded this year. Angela Vold, a Sprague resident studying marketing (clothing, textiles and design), received one of the awards. Her parents are Ron and Joy Vold, and Ron Vold is a member of Crab Creek Grange in Lincoln County. The second scholarship was given to Jason Rinker of Reardan. He and his parents are members of Spring Creek Grange in Lincoln County. Rinker studies business. Nicole Cockle of Puyallup took the third Fox Island award. Cockle, who studies education, is the daughter of Ken and Karen Cockle, and the family belongs to Riverside Valley Grange in Pierce County. The final award was presented to Kasey Druffel of Colton. Druffel, the daughter of Dale and Marsha Druffel, plans to study nursing. Her mother is a member of Johnson Grange in Whitman County.
Koss-Kiona Benton Scholarship: Omak resident Brian Langseth received the $750 award to continue his fisheries and biology degree. Langseth's parents are Randy and Gail Langseth. Randy Langseth is a member of Okanogan Grange in Okanogan County.
Lone Oak Grange Scholarships: Two people received these $750 scholarships this year. Keaton Hille of Washtucna will pursue a pre-medicine degree. He is a member of Rimrock Grange in Adams County, as are his parents Kirk and Connie Hille. The second Lone Oak award went to Lindsey Kiehn of Colbert. She and her parents are members of Half Moon Grange in Spokane County. Kiehn intends to study education.
Marion and Snowie Vanderpool Scholarship: This $750 award was bestowed on Shawna Feiock of Marysville, a student of religious education. She is a member of Mt. Wheeler Grange in Snohomish County.
Martin and Gracie Forry Scholarships: This scholarship provides recipients with funding for four years of advanced education. The 2003 recipient is Matthew Lefever of Goldendale, who will study agricultural business management. His father, Richard Lefever, is a member of Goldendale Grange in Klickitat County. His mother is Paulette Holbrook of Goldendale. Previous recipients include Kimberly Lynch (second of four years), Nathan Klein (third of four years), and Nathaniel Krupke (fourth of four years).
McCleary Grange Scholarships: This $750 award is being presented for the first time this year to two aspiring students. Blaine Hille of Washtucna received the first scholarship. He plans to study law enforcement. Hille is a member of Rimrock Grange in Adams County, along with his parents, Kirk and Connie Hille, and his brother Keaton, also a scholarship winner this year. Marion Snider of Yakima, a student of biology, also won a McCleary Grange scholarship. She is a member of Terrace Heights Grange in Yakima County. Her parents are Dennis and Vicky Snider of Yakima.
Nob Hill Grange Scholarships: Daniel Wade of Naches won one of the two $750 scholarships. He is a member of Lower Naches Grange in Yakima County, along with his grandparents Don and Liz Wade, who are both 50-year members. Wade intends to study in Yakima. The other Nob Hill Grange award went to Bradley Whipple of Sprague, a student of pre-medicine. His parents, Joseph and Janet Whipple, are members of Crab Creek Grange in Lincoln County.
Norman Buchholz Scholarship: Danielle Reynolds, a Winlock resident who plans to study agricultural economics, took this $2,500 scholarship for 2003. She is the daughter of David and Margo Reynolds. Margo Reynolds is a member of St. Urban Grange in Lewis County.
Ray and Marion Kamerrer Scholarships: This fund provides one student with a four-year award worth $750 a year. This year Jonathan Hill of Shelton won the four-year scholarship. He is interested in studying architecture. Hill and his mother Debbie Hill are members of Sharon Grange in Grays Harbor County. His father is John Hill of Shelton. Previous recipients are Callie Hulce (second of four years) and Reade Ferguson (third of four years).
The Kamerrer fund also provides one-year $750 scholarships to a number of students. This year twelve people received the awards. They are:
Riverview Grange Scholarship: Katherine Sliger from Wilbur, was the recipient of this $750 award. She studies elementary education. Her father is Jeffrey Sliger, a member of Wilbur Grange, and her mother is Juli Sliger.
Women's Activities Committee Scholarship: The $750 scholarship to study health went to Erin Bryant of Spanaway, who is working toward a degree in food and human nutrition. She and her parents, David and Mary Bryant, are members of Elk Plain Grange in Pierce County.
